The Oyo State House of Assembly has ordered the
immediate dissolution of the caretaker committees constituted by the
immediate past administration of Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala for the 33
local government areas in the state.
The House, at a plenary presided over by the reinstated Deputy Speaker, Mr. Kazeem Ayilara, on Thursday directed the interim chairmen of the councils to immediately hand over the administration of their local governments to the respective Director of Personnel Management.
The session was attended by 13 members, including the deputy speaker, out of the 32 members of the House. Eight of them were those suspended in the wake of the crisis that engulfed the House in 2010; their suspension has been declared illegal by the court.
The House also directed the state Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, to immediately constitute seven-member caretaker committees for each of the councils.
Each committee, the lawmakers added, must consist of at least two female members.
The assembly further resolved that Ajimobi should set up a committee to investigate all contracts awarded by Alao-Akala’s administration and those of the 33 interim council chairmen from December 2010 till date.
The lawmakers asked the governor to review all appointments and employments made by Alao-Akala’s administration from December 2010 till date.
Another resolution made by the lawmakers was the dissolution of the state Judicial Service Commission, state Independent Electoral Commission, Civil Service Commission and the Local Government Service Commission.
The motion was moved by Mr. Felix Ige of Kajola State Constituency and supported by the reinstated Majority Leader, Mr. Samuel Adejumobi.
Meanwhile, Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Waheed Olajide as the Secretary to the State Government.
Ajimobi on Thursday also announced the appointments of Dr. Adeolu Akande and Dr. Festus Adedayo as Chief of Staff to the Governor and Senior Special Assistant (Public Communication) respectively.
