Protest: Poly students beg Ajimobi, school authority

Students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, have apologised to the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, and the school’s Rector, Prof. Olusegun Odunola, for their behaviour during their protest on Tuesday.
The students had on the first day of Governor Ajimobi stormed his office protesting the increase in their tuition fee which was done by the immediate past administration of Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala.
Irked by the development, the school authority ordered the immediate closure of the school indefinitely.
But the students, in a letter dated June 1, 2011, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent in Ibadan on Thursday, tendered their unreserved apology to the governor.
While regretting the incident, the students said the protest was not meant to embarrass the governor who was resuming duty in his first day in office.
They claimed that their aim was to congratulate the governor on his election and inauguration and to remind him of his electoral promise that their tuition fee would be reduced if elected.
They pleaded with the rector and the school management to re-open the school so that they could continue with their academic activities.
The apology letter was signed by Omoyele Bayonle, Salami Bolaji, Ibironke Temitope and Olayanju Kazeem on behalf of all the students of the polytechnic.
Although when contacted, Ajimobi said he was yet to receive the apology letter, the school’s Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Soladoye Adewole, confirmed that the Rector had received his copy.
