The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic
Party has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to drop the idea of
making the immediate past Senate Leader, Mr. Teslim Folarin, a minister
in the next cabinet.
The party’s State Secretary, Alhaji Bashiru Akanbi, told journalists in Ibadan, the state capital on Monday that Teslim was not fit for any ministerial appointment in view of his alleged anti-party activities.
But the former Senate Leader, in a swift reaction, insisted that there was no PDP executive in place in the state, wondering in which capacity Akanbi made the submission.
Other leaders identified by the party secretary as liable of anti-party activities were a former Deputy Governor for the State, Alhaji Azeem Gbolarumi; and a former Minister of Special Duties, Mr. Wole Oyelese.
Akanbi recalled that Folarin, alongside some other party stalwarts, worked against former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, during the April general elections.
He contended that since they were known to have worked for the opposition, “they should not come out now to reap where they did not sow.”
But Folarin, in a telephone interview, regretted that when every party member was trying to reconcile all aggrieved party members and identify what caused the party’s abysmal performance in the South West, Akanbi and his ilk were busy trying to fuel the crisis.
“Akanbi and his paymasters should be asked why President Goodluck Jonathan won in virtually all the states of the South West and the party’s sitting governors and others lost their positions to the opposition. It only showed that something was wrong somewhere, that was left un-addressed,” the former Senate Leader said.
Meanwhile, the state PDP has also commended the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adisa Bolanta, for what it called the manner in which he had been handling the protracted National Union of Road Transport Workers’ crisis in the state.
The party said contrary to the various calls for Bolanta’s redeployment, the police boss had not done anything wrong to warrant such calls.
Akanbi said, “Since Bolanta arrived Oyo State, there has been peace and less crimes. Bolanta has not done anything to warrant his transfer.
“As far as we are concerned in PDP, we respect Bolanta. The Commissioner of Police has been busy parading hoodlums and armed robbers.
“Let the ACN face governance instead of criticising Bolanta. They should leave Bolanta to perform his work. Governor (Abiola) Ajimobi’s Judicial Commission of Enquiry into the NURTW crisis is a kangaroo probe panel which has been set out to witch-hunt.”
