The lobby for appointments as commissioners in
Osun State on Monday, with Governor Rauf Aregbesola calling for
nominations from the Action Congress of Nigeria leaders in the state’s
nine federal constituencies.
Aregbesola, who travelled to India last Thursday, for medical check-up, told the party leaders that he hoped to run a cabinet with inputs from all the federal constituencies of the state.
The call by the governor, last week, put paid to speculations that commissionership appointments by the ACN-led government would be replete with ‘Lagosians.’
Opposition Peoples Democratic Party had criticised Aregbesola for not naming his cabinet six months after his administration was inaugurated.
But the state government, through the Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, described the objection of the PDP as “puerile and faulty.”
Our correspondent gathered that the governor would name his cabinet shortly after his return from medical trip.
Some of the ACN’s chieftains already nominated by their constituencies included Aregbesola’s lawyers, Messrs Wale Afolabi and Ajibola Bashiru, nominated by Ifelodun and Osogbo constituencies respectively.
Others included the party’s Director of Research and Strategy, Mr. Sunday Akere, who hails from Igbajo town in Boluwaduro constituency; the party’s lawyer, Mr. Gbenga Akano, who is from Iragbiji in Boripe and Mr. Adebisi Adejare from Irepodun.
Also, the party leaders in Ife-North submitted the name of Mr. Bisi Odewunmi as a commissioner nominee.
Three nominees expected to emerge from each of the the state’s nine federal constituencies would total up to 27.
Osun, however, has only 15 ministries.
