Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has
raised the alarm over alleged plans to destabilise the state by a group
by inciting the people against his administration.
Amosun, who raised the alarm in a statement by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Mrs. Funmi Wakama, on Sunday, said the group, whom he failed to disclose its identity had held a meeting with a view to destabilising the state.
He said, “The destabilisation plot which is through inciting the people against the government is led and financed by a former top elected official of government and it held a meeting last Thursday.”
The statement added that the meeting was attended by representatives of transport workers, students and politicians loyal to the former elected official.
He said, “Surprisingly, a policeman, said to be representing certain interest in the state command, was at the meeting where the plan was put in place to ensure that the new administration was distracted and discredited.”
He alleged that the plan of the group included the use of students with “the responsibility of mobilising their colleagues on the campuses of seven higher institutions to start some violent protests against the new administration over trumped-up issues.
“The students are also to issue press statements to condemn the administration and issue deadlines on several issues.”
The governor alleged that some politicians and aides of the former elected official were also to start bombarding the media with different statements which would distract the Amosun- administration and put all its activities in bad light.
Amosun said, “We gathered that the first tranche of the funds meant for the plot was released at the weekend. Interestingly, a national newspaper had in its June 5 edition exclusively reported that a group, loyal to the former administration in the state had put together N50m war chest to sponsor media campaign against the Ogun State Government. However, intelligence reports have indicated that the report is actually true.”
