The Speaker of the sixth Oyo State House of
Assembly, Mr. Moroof Atilola, has described the resolutions made by 13
members of the House at a sitting on Thursday as unconstitutional, null
and void.
The lawmakers, including eight members suspended in the wake of attempt to remove Atilola in 2011, led by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Kazeem Ayilara, had among other resolutions sacked the interim chairmen in the 33 local governments in the state and dissolved the boards of some of the commissions in the state.
The commissions included the state Judicial Service Commission, State Independent Electoral Commission, Civil Service Commission and the Local Government Service Commission.
But Atilola in a statement, a copy of which was made available to journalists in Ibadan on Sunday, likened the 13 lawmakers’ sitting and resolutions a comedy plays by popular comedians.
He said the members “hurriedly and unconstitutionally sat and purportedly took some illegal resolutions” six days after the constitutional final and valedictory sitting of the assembly.
He said the sixth assembly adjourned sine dine at the end of the plenary he presided over on May 27 wherein lawmakers present were allowed to give valedictory speeches.
