President of the Sixth Senate, David Mark, and
his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, were on Monday elected as the President and
Deputy President of the Seventh Senate of the Federation.
Mark‘s return as the Senate President followed a motion moved by Senator Ndoma Egba (SAN) and seconded by Senator Smart Adeyemi, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
Mark became a unanimous candidate without opposition from 109 senators, and as such there was no election to return him.
He was sworn in immediately by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa.
Ekweremadu was nominated in a motion moved by Senator Zainab Kure (Niger PDP). She noted that the Sixth Senate under Mark and Ekweremadu was stable.
Ekweremadu‘s nomination was unanimously supported by 108 senators and he was subsequently sworn-in by Maikasuwa.
