The Ogun State Police Command on Tuesday arrested
the General Manager of the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta,
Mr. Ayo Olusanya, and two others over alleged looting of government
facilities at the stadium.
Olusanya, our correspondent, gathered was arrested together with two other staff members, a driver and an administrative officer of the stadium.
All the suspects were said to have been whisked to the Ibara Police station for interrogation.
Investigations by our correspondent revealed that the suspects came to the stadium around 2.30pm with a Mazda Pick up van with Lagos number plate SK 84 AAA and a Transit Custom-Ford marked P 660 HPU.
The suspects were said to have kept the looted items which included two LG air conditioners and a standing fan, inside the vehicles.
Our correspondent gathered that the suspects were apprehended by the police following a tip off.
The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Mr. Suraju Adekunbi, his
Deputy, Mr. Tola Banjo and a member representing Ifo 1 state Constituency, Adekunle Oluomo, were among those who hurriedly visited the place after the incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Ogun State Command, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, adding that the police had commenced thorough investigations into the matter.
“It is true that we have some people in our custody who claimed to be the owners of LG air conditioner and other items found in their possession at the stadium. We are investigating to know the ownership of the items found in their possession at that time and at that place because there is difference between ownership and possession,” he stated.
