Barely 24 hours after Governor Adams Oshiomhole
of Edo State submitted the names of eight commissioner nominees to the
state House of Assembly, a group, Akoko-Edo ACN Youth Leaders Forum, has
rejected the nominee from the area.
Oshiomhole had on Tuesday sent the list of proposed commissioners and some local government caretaker chairmen to the state assembly.
The group, in a statement endorsed by a party leader in the area, John Mayaki, and representatives of the 10 wards that make up the council kicked against the nomination of Mrs. Annenah Jemitola as the commissioner nominee for Akoko-Edo Local Government Council.
The group, however, commended the governor for what it described as his level of transparency with the recent publication of the government’s statement of account.
The group said, “Good leadership as exemplified by Oshiomhole will no doubt create more openness in government business, entrench the rule of law and create greater opportunities for people to experience personal freedom.
“There is a lot to learn from the recent publications placed by the state government about it’s 2010 statement of account such as the administration’s level of transparency, fiscal discipline, accountability and disclosure of public finances and expenditure.”
