Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, on
Wednesday commenced negotation with representatives of labour unions in
the state on the N18,000 minimum wage.
According to a statement by the state Head of Service, Alhaji Tajudeen Aremu, those at the meeting included representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress in the state.
The governor was quoted as saying that he was not aversed to the payment of the N18,000 minimum wage because he believed that workers in the state deserved better welfare than they enjoyed at present.
He also noted that the improvement of the welfare of workers was one of the promises he made while campaigning for the office of governor.
Ajimobi regretted the fact that civil servants in the state were the least paid in the South-West geo-political zone and among the worst paid in the country.
He pledged his commitment to reverse the trend.
