A senator-elect and former governor of Gombe
State, Alhaji Muhammed Goje, has ruled himself out of the contest for
the Senate presidency, saying his zone, the North-East, has been
officially excluded from the race by the Peoples Democratic Party
leadership.
He said that he had been officially excluded from the race by the outgoing Senate through the recent amendment of the standing order on the ranking of senators.
Goje stated at a news briefing in Abuja on Thursday that he decided against contesting the Senate presidency on April 6, 2011, as a party man and a prospective senator, who believed in the rule of law and teamwork.
The senator-elect, who will be representing Gombe Central, explained that though he did not officially or publicly declare any intention to contest, his name had featured prominently among the leading contestants for several weeks with calls across all the six-geopolitical zones for him to come out and contest.
