Ogun State House of Assembly on Wednesday faulted
the former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, for selling
three state-owned hotels, popularly called Gateway Hotels, located in
different towns in the state.
The House also during its plenary, ordered that all the 29 public-owned schools released by the Daniel’s administration to missionaries and communities be reverted to the state government.
The members of the Assembly described the sales of the hotels as illegal and not in the interest of the state.
One of the lawmakers representing Yewa North state Constituency, Mr. Job Akintan, who moved the motion that the lawmakers should reverse the sale of Gateway Hotels in Ota, Ijebu-Ode and Abeokuta, argued that the sales for “a paltry N520m is ridiculous.”
Also corroborating his view, the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Remmy Hassan, who is an estate surveyor said, “If I had to value Gateway Hotel in Ijebu-Ode today it is worth N1.2bn,” adding that the sales by the Daniel administration was “fraudulent, illegal and unacceptable.”
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Tunji Egbetokun, following the submissions of the members directed that the sales should be reversed.
The House, in its decision, also directed that all the 29 public schools should be withdrawn from the beneficiary communities and missionaries and returned to the state government.
Members of the assembly also directed that the N1.2bn tallest building in the state, named OGD Plaza, should be renamed Ogun Property Investment Corporation and directed the management of the corporation to remove the OGD inscription on immediately.
