Akunyili, Ngige in tight race for Anambra Central

The All Progressives Grand Alliance and the Action Congress of Nigeria are in a tight race to clinch the Anambra Central Senatorial ticket based on reports from polling units in the zone. The two parties, featuring Prof. Dora Akunyili (APGA) and Dr. Chris Ngige (ACN), are ahead of the Accord Party candidate, Senator Annie Okonkwo, and the Peoples Democratic Party, candidate Chief Ogugua Okoye. However, Akunyili and Ngige appeared not to be in celebration mood yet because the full results of the election had yet to be known due to late voting in most of the polling units. Ngige, who complained that some of his agents in Agulu, the hometown of Akunyili, were beaten up, was on the telephone for most part of the day. Akunyili, who returned home after voting at about 4pm, went straight upstairs and left instructions not to be disturbed. A close aide of hers said she was tensed up following a report that ballot boxes were snatched at Nkpor, an area known to be the base of Ngige. Reports from Anambra South showed that APGA and the PDP candidates, Chief Chuma Nzeribe and Dr. Andy Uba, respectively, were neck and neck in the race. By Emmanuel Obe Courtesy Of: Punch
