Calm returned gradually to Kano metropolis on
Tuesday, even as public and private offices remained under lock and key
after Monday’s violent protests, which took security operatives by
surprise.
This protest followed the announcement of Saturday’s presidential election results.
Banks are still under lock and key and customers resorted to using the Automated Teller Machine cards for their withdrawals.
The relics of burnt buildings and vehicles litter some major roads in the metropolis, as victims take stock of their losses.
Our correspondent observed that on Zoo Road, one of the hot points where destruction and attack was fierce, repairs of shops and other business places had begun in earnest.
Also, commercial activities resumed in the Sokoto metropolis on Tuesday following the unrest in some parts of the state.
A News Agency of Nigeria correspondent, who monitored the situation, reported that shops and other commercial ventures opened for business while normal transactions went on smoothly.
