The Action Congress of Nigeria on Wednesday
deplored comments by Governor Gbenga Daniel that the April 26
governorship contest in the state would be tough.
The party in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary in Ogun State, Mr. Sola Lawal, said the comment, as reported in the media, was in bad taste and capable of throwing the state into chaos.
According to the ACN, the governor, who, while addressing leaders of industrial unions in the state, said that the April 26 election would be tough intends to replay events in the 2007 election which was characterised by the hijacking of ballot boxes and disorderliness.
Noting that vigilance by the ACN was able to checkmate the governor’s antics in the April 9 parliamentary elections, the party implored security agencies to be at alert in order to stop the desperate moves by Daniel to manipulate the governorship poll and cause violence in the state.
The ACN also said the fact that the Daniel administration, which it said had been finding it difficult to meet its financial obligations, was giving out money to all civil servants pointed to the fact that he intended to use them to manipulate the election in his favour.
