We ‘ll accept outcome if poll is fair – Ribadu, Shekarau
The Presidential candidates of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and the All Nigeria Peoples Party, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, have said that they will concede victory to the winner if the conduct of the election is free and fair. Ribadu and Shekarau spoke separately in Adamawa and Kano states after casting their votes during the election.
Ribadu who cast his vote at the Bako Ward in Yola-South Local Government Area of Adamawa State around 1.15pm, assured Nigerians that he would be the first contestant to congratulate the winner.
“I will be the first person to congratulate the winner.
“I will be ready to join forces with him to move the country forward,” he added.
Ribadu, who observed that the election had been free and fair so far, however, expressed disappointment over the low turnout of voters.
Also, Shekarau who spoke with journalists in Kano after casting his vote, said he would accept the result of the election as long as the process was free and fair.
“It is normal in any election where two or three people contest, a winner and a loser must emerge.
“I am impressed with the turnout of voters from the report we have received across the state.
He disclosed that the electorate were happy with the conduct of the poll by INEC with many of them already on queues even before the INEC officials arrived at the polling booths.
