PDP loses in Aso Rock Villa, VP’s ward
The Peoples Democratic Party suffered a major setback in the National Assembly election on Saturday as unofficial results from Abuja showed that it lost in the Aso Rock Villa.
The result is surprising considering the fact that the Villa is currently occupied by President Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP. The party scored 209 votes against Congress for Progressive Change’s 390 in the election to the House of Representatives. The result of the senatorial election for the Villa was not known as at press time.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dimeji Bankole and Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, face an uncertain fate on Saturday as unofficial results of the National Assembly elections showed that they had lost their wards.
The two candidates were not the only ones that suffered a major setback Vice-President Namadi Sambo’s PDP was believed to have been defeated in his ward.
At Obasanjo-Bello’s Ward 11, Unit 16 situated at African Grammar School, Ita-Eko, the Action Congress candidate, Gbenga Obadara, polled 194 votes to defeat the senator who scored 94 votes.
In Kabala Costain Ward 005, which is the VP’s ward, the CPC polled 265 votes while the PDP had 115.
The CPC also beat PDP by 277 votes to 103 votes in the House of Representatives election in Kabala Costain Ward 005.
In most of the South-West states, the Action Congress of Nigeria candidates made impressive showings in many of the wards where results counted in the presence of voters.
PDP candidate, Toheeb Odumawo, was said to have lost to ACN’s Gbenga Kaka. Kaka, a former deputy governor, polled 121 votes to beat Odumowo in Isoto Ward.
There was no clear signal of the two major senatorial candidates — Chief Orji Kalu and Senator Uche Chukwumerije — leading in the poll in Abia State.
While some reports had it that Kalu of the Progressive Peoples Alliance was leading in many wards in Bende, Isuikwuato, Ohafia, Igbere, Mkpa, Item — all in Abia North senatorial district, others claimed that Chukwumerije was ahead.
Our correspondents learnt that in five out of the 10 wards comprising Ikeja Federal Constituency, the ACN was leading.
According to the results announced at the collation centre, out of a total number of 3, 181 votes cast at Ward 09 (Ikeja GRA/Police Barracks), the ACN scored 1,844, while the PDP scored 844. Other parties like the CPC and the All Nigeria Peoples Party scored 255 and 15 respectively for the House of Representatives election.
In the senatorial election for the same ward, the ACN scored 1,787, while the PDP scored 800 votes. The Labour Party and the CPC, however, had 74 and 237 votes respectively.
In Ward 04 (Airport-Onipetesi-Onilekere), there was a total number of 14, 940 registered voters, while 3,607 people cast their votes.
Out of this figure, the ACN had 2,101 votes, the PDP scored 871 votes, while the CPC scored 136 votes in the House of Representatives election.
In the Senate election in the same ward, the ACN scored 2264 votes, the PDP scored 877, while the CPC scored 148 votes.
In the Anifowoshe ward, the ACN scored 1,555 votes, the PDP got 970 votes, the LP scored 30 votes while the CPC scored 80 votes in the House of Representatives election. The senatorial election in the ward also saw the ACN leading with 1,552 votes, the PDP with 988 votes, the ANPP with 22 votes and the Social Democratic Mega Party with eight votes.
In the senatorial election in Alausa/Oregun/Olusosun, the ACN scored 4370 votes, while the PDP had 2618 votes with the CPC, ANPP and SDMP scoring 252,107 and 20 respectively.
