FG has failed – Tinubu

Former Lagos State Governor and a leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Saturday condemned the postponement of the National Assembly election. He said, “The Federal Government has failed and should resign.” Tinubu, who spoke with journalists at Ward 3, Ikeja II, Alausa, said the postponement of the election was a national disaster and a move that could frustrate voters. According to him, other neighbouring counties like Ghana have successfully conducted general elections without hitches. He said, “The Giant of Africa is still struggling to conduct an election and is now an elephant with serious arthritis; it cannot move itself. It is a shame and this is a disaster for the nation; this is terrible for Nigeria.” The former governor said it was, however, better that the Prof. Attahiru Jega-led INEC postponed the election instead of going ahead in spite of poor logistics. He said INEC should seize the opportunity of the postponement to put its house in order. Tinubu said, “I am here to vote but I cannot vote, this again is a systematic failure and we know whom to blame. It is better for them that they took the decision to postpone the election so that they can check their mistakes and failure; they should take responsibility and give us another date. “The National Assembly delayed so much to grant Jega what he wanted for the proper conduct of the election. “They interfered in the supply of election materials. Let us start using competent hands. So many INEC officials are reported to be trapped in areas where they are supposed to collect sensitive materials.” Commenting on the accreditation of voters, Tinubu said, “If the result sheets are not here along with other materials, then what’s the point of the exercise?” He urged voters to ensure that they cast their votes when another date was fixed. Tinubu said, “There is only one chance and it will take another four years for us to redeem it. A nation state deserves the leader it chooses; they have the opportunity, so they shouldn’t miss it. If they allow manipulation, they will pay the price.” By Our Correspondent Courtesy Of: Punch
