Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregebesola, has
described the administration of his predecessor, Prince Olagunsoye
Oyinlola, as lazy.
Aregbesola stated this in Osogbo, on Friday, when he inaugurated a 14-member cabinet comprising mostly of technocrats. He said the Oyinlola administration held only 48 cabinet meetings during its seven and a half years in power. The governor said, “Surprisingly, our critics were hammering the issue of appointment of commissioners as if the state cannot be governed without the commissioners.
“Whereas they did not tell the public that during Oyinlola’s administration, the governor and the then commissioners had no time for the job they were being paid for as a result of which the state executive meeting was not regular.”
Charging the commissioners to use their skills to develop the state, Aregbesola stressed that adding value to the lives of the citizenry remained the primary objective of his government.
A statement by an Assistant Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Fayemiwo, on Friday, said the governor would oversee the Ministry of Works while his deputy, Titi Laoye-Tomori, would oversee the education ministry.
The commissioners are: Dr. Temitope Ilori (Health); Mr. Ajibola Bashir (Regional Integration and Special Duties); Mr. Sunday Akere (Information); Mr. Richard Adedoyin (Agric and Food Security); Mr. Muyiwa Ige (Lands and Physical Planning).
Others are Mr. Wale Afolabi (Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice); Mr. Stephen Kola-Balogun (Youth & Sports Development); Mr. Kolapo Alimi (Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs); Mr. Jayeoba Alagbada (Commerce, Co-operatives and Empowerment).
Dr. Wale Bolorunduro (Finance and Economic Development); Prof. Oyawoye (Environment); Ms. Mobolaji Akande (Women Affairs); Mr. Sikiru Ayedun (Tourism); and Mr. Sikiru Adetona were also inaugurated.
While urging the new commissioners to draw inspiration from the Chief Obafemi Awolowo era, the governor explained that his style was patterned after that of Awolowo, whose team he described as the best.
