President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami, was, Thursday, suspended by the National Judicial Council, NJC.
The suspension of Justice Salami, Vanguard learnt was sequel to his refusal to apologised to the out-going Chief Justice of Nigeria, NJC, Justice Aloysius Kastina-Alu and NJC, over allegation and the suit he instituted, claiming that Kastina-Alu tried to compromise him over the Sokoto State Governorship election matter, which the Supreme Court finally determined, even against existing laws, which prescribe the termination of governorship petitions at the Court of Appeal, before the present amendment to the constitution.
NJC in a statement suspending Salami, by Mr E.I. Odukwu, Director of Administration, read, “Pursuant to the powers conferred on the NJC in the 1999 Constitution as amended, Justice Isa Ayo Salami, President of the Court of Appeal has been suspended from office with effect from today (yesterday) August 18, 2011.
“The decision was reached at the 7th Emergency Meeting of the Council held on August 18, 2011. The NJC further directs that Justice Salami, should hand over the affairs of the Court of appeal to the next most senior Justice of the Court,” the statement added.
