Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi has said his administration will respect the traditional institution in the state.
Ajimobi made this promise on Monday during his visit to the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Samuel Odulana, Odugade I.
He said, “My administration will not disrespect the elders and the obas, unlike the past administration. We will continue to be a government of all the people, including traditional rulers.”
Ajimobi said he decided to begin his familiarisation visit to royal fathers in the state with the visit to Olubadan due to the importance he attached to the monarch.
He assured the monarch of his administration’s determination to respect the advice and opinions of the elders which, he said, would assist him in taking the right decision to meet the needs and aspirations of the people.
He said, “We will not relent in doing the right thing; we will correct the wrongs of the past and put things in proper perspective.”
According to him, he wold ensure that the injustice done to traditional institutions in the state was corrected.
The governor appealed to the royal father to prompt him whenever he noticed any mistake made by his administration.
Responding on behalf of the Olubadan, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Omowale Kuye, described Ajimobi’s emergence as divine.
He said, “The misrule of the past was changed by God; our prayer was answered and those who did not have respect for traditional institution were removed by Him.”
He also lamented the non-implementation of the five per cent allocation for traditional council in the state by the past administration and urged the governor to correct the anomalies.
The Olubadan, who promised his support for the governor, prayed for the success of the new administration.
