The Executive Secretary of the Petroleum
Equalisation Fund, Mrs. Adefunke Kasali, who was invited for questioning
by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over a petition by
official of her organisation has been released.
Kasali said on Sunday that she and four other staff members of the PEF were released by the anti-graft body after questioning them on the allegation raised on the unsigned petition.
The EFCC spokesman, Femi Babafemi, had confirmed on Thursday that the commission was interrogating Kasali, but gave no further details.
The PEF boss in a statement by her lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, said she had been confronted with an anonymous and unsigned petition written by some concerned PEF staff at the EFCC.
“She made a statement, filled an asset declaration form and was requested to surrender her international passport. She was granted bail in her own self-recognisance and allowed to go home,” the statement said.
The statement further denied the allegations that had been made in the petition to the EFCC by the Concerned PEF Staff.
Specifically she refuted the allegation that N400m had been traced to her personal accounts.
Kasali said she operated two personal bank accounts and the combined total amount of funds in the accounts was below N4m, out of which N1.6m was a rent, just collected on a property jointly owned with her husband.
