The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade I, has called on the indigenes of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to invest their resources positively for a continued sustenance of the city’s status as a leading community in Africa.
Odulana made this call at the launch of a 200-page book written by a former Head of Service and former Federal Director of Budget, Chief Theophilus Akinyele, titled Ibadan Traditional System: Reform and Regeneration.
The book reviewer, Prof. Kunle Iyanda, said the author faulted the pyramidal structure of the traditional system which, he said, had been bastardised as people that were not incorporated into the system were coming in.
The book recommended that the number of rungs in the ladder to the throne of Olubadan should be reduced from 23 to 12, and it also called for a funding reform for the traditional institution to make it more viable.
The author advised that Ibadan chiefs should not be allowed to meddle in politics.
