Some members of the Action Congress of Nigeria in
Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo State were on Sunday
involved in a motor accident on their way to the inauguration ceremony
of Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
A source said many sustained different degrees of injury in the crash, which occurred at Ipeba after Odo Oba near Ogbomoso town.
Our correspondent gathered that out of the 10 buses boarded for the journey only one was involved in the accident.
The financial secretary of the party in the council area, Mr. Kayode Adeniran, told our correspondent the incident occurred at 10am on Sunday.
He also said the driver of the bus and three persons were seriously injured while others sustained minor injuries.
Adeniran gave the names of the trio as Popoola, Jimoh Alajide and Idowu Ogunlade.
He said, “The driver of the 18-seater bus was trying to overtake a trailer. He did that successfully but the brakes failed. And as he tried to steady the bus, he noticed a stationery vehicle at his front and while trying to avoid it another trailer emerged sending it back with its rear. The bus then rammed into the parked vehicle.”
The injured, it was gathered, were taken to Opabode Hospital Oyo before moving them to Bowen University Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso on Sunday night.
According to him, all those injured in the accident are from Okelerin, Ward 8 in the council area.
He said, “We had to break the vehicle to bring out some of them. But Olaniran was the most injured for his two legs were badly affected.”
