Victory in Osun indicates PDP’s unpopularity – ACN

The victory of the Action Congress of Nigeria in the recently concluded general elections in Osun State has been attributed to the unpopularity of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
Caretaker Chairman, Aiyedire Local Government Council, Mr. Gbenga Ogunkanmi, said this in Ile-Ogbo on Tuesday.
According to the council boss, the victory of the ACN in the House of Assembly election, where it won all the 26 seats available in the parliament was unprecedented in the history of the state.
Ogunkanmi said, “We intend to put records straight, the PDP had boasted after Governor Rauf Aregbesola was sworn-in that ACN’s governorship victory was bought at the Appeal Court, Ibadan.
“The ACN won all the senatorial and House of Representatives seats in Osun. The party went ahead to sweep the stakes for the ACN in the presidential election. The dominance of the ACN in the state parliamentary election was remarkable.
“Putting all these electoral achievements together showed that the PDP was never popular in Osun State. Rather, the party had forced itself on the people. If the PDP was truly popular as being claimed in the last seven and a half years, would the party have lost woefully in the general elections?”
The Director of Publicity, Osun PDP, Mr. Adeolu Adeyemo, in the party’s reaction, said the parliamentary elections in the state were marred by irregularities and violence.
“It is an open secret that PDP members were beaten and victimised during the elections. Our supporters were deterred from coming out to vote. We will take judicious notice of all these acts in the coming days ahead,” Adeyemo said.
