The Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, on
Sunday lamented the media bashing that characterised his eight years
administration of the state.
Daniel spoke during the thanksgiving service to mark his eight-year administration of the state and the dedication of Abraham’s Tabernacle built in honour of his father, Rev. Abraham Daniel, at Sagamu, Ogun State on Sunday.
The governor, who also lamented the media bashing of his family, pleaded for forgiveness from his children for not having enough time for them.
“I thank my children for their understanding, especially the stress of reading fictions daily presented about your Dad on the internet and the newspapers by political opponents,” he stated.
Daniel in his speech urged his supporters to transfer their loyalties to his successor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, stating that government was a continuum.
He disclosed that many of his political appointees had already tendered their resignation letters and that he had accepted the letters but pleaded with them to transfer their loyalties to the incoming administration.
Speaking on life after his tenure, Daniel hinted that he might end up on the pulpit as a minister of God following his father’s vision about him.
The event which also witnessed the presentation of the book, ‘Daniel in the Lion’s Den’ written by the governor, had in attendance former Military Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, and the former Commonwealth General Secretary, Dr. Emeka Anyaouku among the dignitaries that graced the occasion.
Gowon in his speech described the eight years administration of the outgoing governor as a resounding success and commended the governor for his contributions to the economic development of the state.
“Going through major areas in the state shows that the state is not how it was in the last eight years. The value of what the governor had done in road construction mostly in Obafemi-Owode, Ijebu Ode, Abeokuta, among other areas should be appreciated. The eight years of the governor was not wasted because he touched some major developmental programmes,” he stated.
Other distinguished Nigerians who were at the occasion included former Chief of Army Staff, General Oladipupo Diya and former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Prince Bola Ajibola.
