I’ll be accountable to Lagosians, not individuals, says Dosunmu

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Dr Ade Dosunmu, has promised to run a government that will be accountable to the greater majority of the people and not a system to satisfy the greed of few self-serving individuals. Dosunmu made the commitment at two rallies attended by thousands of supporters in Surulere and Lagos Mainland local governments on Monday, promising to run “open, transparent and accountable government”. He said: “I have over 24 years of worthwhile experience in the running of government in Nigeria, it is the only thing I know how to do best and I promise to run an open and decent government that will provide good governance to the people of Lagos. “Our commitment is to run a people oriented government, a government that will be sensitive to the need of the greater majority, a government that will not direct people to a website for facts and figures, a government that will keep to promises and fulfill commitments, that is our mandate.” The PDP governorship candidate accused Governor Babatunde Fashola of running a self- glorified government that lack transparency in project execution and lack accountability in stewardship, adding that the hallmark of governance is accountability. He said that it was disheartening for a government that claims to be the best “in its own imagination” to be afraid of publishing the cost of projects in the state and making known the total debt profile for public scrutiny. “This is the period of reckoning, I urge the people of Lagos to ask questions from them, don’t let them hide, say no empty promises, what they did not do for you in the last four years, they will not do it in the next four years because they will have nothing at stake,” he said. Dosunmu promised to prioritise electricity generation through the Independent Power Project, while assuring that his government would partner with the federal government to reduce the burden placed on the people by the ACN led government.
