Fashola okays recruitment of 250 fire fighters

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has approved the recruitment of 250 people into the state Fire service to enhance manpower and boost fire fighting. The new recruits comprising men and women are currently undergoing training, according to a statement from the state fire service. The statement disclosed that the governor’s recruitment approval was made known by the Director of the state fire service, Mr. Aderemi Ajose, during a recent conference on disaster, safety and security management and award nite, held in Abuja. The Lagos State Fire Service bagged an award at the ceremony from the National Emergency Management Authority for prompt response and credible performance under the present administration in the state. According to Ajose, “The governor has given approval for additional 250 recruits to improve the level of manpower in Lagos State Fire Service. Among them are 50 graduates of various disciplines. The recruits are made up of men and women and they are undergoing training at the moment. Ajose thanked the organisers of the event for the honour done the service and enumerated achievements of the service under the administration of Fashola to include acquisition of 10 new fire fighting trucks and water tankers to support the existing ones so as to enhance performance and service delivery to the citizenry. Others were five rapid fire intervention vehicles for smooth running of the fire service which also serve as mini tankers to be used in difficult terrain. He said, “Apart from the above, the state governor approved the purchase of two Bronto Skylift specialised fire fighting heavy duty vehicles to fight fire in high rise buildings. Most recently, the state fire fighting outfit also took delivery of thermal imaging camera which will enable the firemen to have traces working in the dark and hidden areas during fighting operations.”
