Fashola, Three other Lagos Guber Candidates Rap PDP

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola and three other gubernatorial candidates in the state Wednesday night accused the successive governments of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of being responsible for the socio-economic and political woes confronting the country, citing contract inflation and corrupt practices in its rank for the woes. Dr. Abayomi Tokoya of the All Nigerian People’s Party (ANPP), Mr. Ayodele Akele of the National Conscience Party (NCP) and Dr. Agboola Dominic of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) blamed the PDP government at the governorship debate organised by Lagos State council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Wednesday. However, the PDP governorship candidate, Dr. Adegboyega Dosunmu, accused the Fashola administration of mismanaging public funds, a situation, he said, had led to a state of insecurity and infrastructural decay. The debate was moderated by Prof. Abayomi Akinyeye of the University of Lagos while the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, Ms. Siju Alabi of Superscreen Television and Sam Omatseye of The Nation Newspaper were panelists. Speaking at the debate, Tokoya said the ruling party “has destroyed this country," adding "Unless PDP is voted out, Lagos and the entire country may not witness any development. PDP must be voted out at all cost to allow development”. Tokoya, who harped on revolutionizing the state, also accused Fashola’s administration of contract inflation and financial mismanagement, citing a case of one kilometre road, which he said, was constructed at a sum of one billion naira. In response, the incumbent governor quickly debunked the allegation of contract inflation leveled against him, referring his critics to the ruling party for awarding the most expensive runway in the history of the world at a huge sum of N67 billion.
