The coalition of Neutral Peoples Democratic Party
Members in Lagos State has rejected names sent to the presidency for
consideration as ministers.
In a telephone interview with our correspondent on Wednesday, the group’s convener, Princess Gloria Adebajo-Fraser, said the list from the state came from a faction, led by the convicted former Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Chief Olabode George.
She said the coalition had recommended temporary suspension of political appointments in the state until the dissolution of the factions.
Fraser said, “The appointment of any member of the factions will lead to further polarisation of the party. It is very important that after the loss of the election, we do proper reconciliation before considering any candidate for appointment.
“Most of the people on list are either members of the state executives of the party or those who lost in the April elections. It will be retrogressive for democracy if there is consideration for any of the individuals on the list.”
She also said the capability of the nominees to add value to the system was questionable based on their records.
She said, “These people cannot add value to the system. Once we pursue reconciliation, we will be able to come up with consensus candidates who will be able to contribute meaningfully to nation building.”
