The Akoko North-West Local Council chapter of the
Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party has dissociated itself from the
alleged suspension of the Minister of Defence, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode,
(SAN), by the executive of the party in the state.
The action, which coincided with the positions of some leaders of the party and the youth wing of the party in separate reactions on Saturday, appeared to have worsened the crisis rocking the party in the state.
The PDP in the council, where the minister comes, described the suspension of the minister as an embarrassment to them and demanded an apology from the chairman of the state chapter of the party and his executive members.
The Chairman of the PDP in the council, Prince Alaba Arohunmolase, in a letter to the National Chairman of the Party, Dr. Haliru Mohammed, described the purported suspension of Kayode as frivolous and reprehensible.
He said the minister was never, for once, accused of engaging in any form of anti-party activity or the other.
The letter reads in part, “For a party man to be suspended, the initiative must be from the ward level to the local government through the state to the National Secretariat.
“The professed suspension did not follow the party constitutional procedure and thus remain null and void and to no effect.”
The party described Kayode as a party man who was loyal to his boss, President Goodluck Jonathan, and “who, should not be treated as a dissident by the party which, he has committed his time and fund to sustaining.”
The party also said, “The Minister made available adequate funds to the party through the state chairman before and during the last elections. Similarly, provisions were made from the units, wards and local government.
“He gave PDP candidates, who were contesting elections reasonable amount of money. All these facts are verifiable and figures will be published in due course.
“If at all we lost the elections in Ondo State through the connivance of the Minister as claimed by the state party executives, what happened in Ogun, Oyo and Osun States respectively?”
