PDP to move against Obi in LG polls

The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has said it will resist any attempt by the state government and the State Independent Electoral Commission to further postpone local government elections in the state.
The PDP Chairman, Chief Ken Emeakayi, told a meeting of councillorship and chairmanship candidates that the party wanted the state government and ANSIEC to conduct the elections on November 5 as earlier fixed.
He said the PDP was already in court to stop the release of local government funds to the state government if elected officials did not run the councils from November.
Emeakayi also said governor Peter Obi was “no longer fit and proper to continue to operate as governor if for six years, he cannot hold local government electionS.”
He said, “The constitution of this country says the local governments will be run by democratically elected officers. There is no provision for caretaker committees or transition committees.
“So, everything that is being done in the local governments with unelected officials is illegal and unconstitutional. We have written to the Anambra State Government to conduct the elections.”
Meanwhile, the national PDP on Wednesday lamented the problems in Anambra State chapter of the party.
It said there were 458 cases pending against the party in the state.
The national leadership also revealed that the state chapter had produced 15 chairmen in 11 years.
The National Vice- Chairman in charge of the South-East zone, Chief Olisa Metuh, told journalists after the PDP National Working Committee meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, that the national leadership was not happy with the state chapter.
He said almost every known member of the party in the state had left at one time or the other for another party.
“I want to put it in perspective that I am the only member of the party that has lasted 11 years at the party in Anambra State,” Metuh said.
