Abia advises Kalu

The Abia State Government has advised the immediate past governor of the state, Chief Orji Kalu, to swallow his pride and accept defeat in the spirit of sportsmanship. This is contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media (Electronic), Mr. Ugochukwu Emezue, and made available to THE PUNCH in the state capital, Umuahia, on Tuesday. Kalu, who was the senatorial candidate of the Progressive Peoples Alliance for Abia North, had rejected the outcome of last Saturday’s National Assembly polls in the state, citing the alleged intimidation of voters, snatching of ballot boxes and other forms of electoral malpractices. But Emezue said, “The former governor should emulate the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, who accepted defeat and congratulated his opponent who won the election. Kalu is free to go to court and challenge the result.” He also said the threat by the opposition in the state to boycott future elections would not stop Abia voters from entrenching democracy.
