Two killed at political rally in Lagos
Two people were on Monday killed during a political rally at Campos Square on Lagos Island, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
Witnesses told NAN that a fight broke out midway into the rally by the campaign organisation of a senatorial candidate. During the free-for-all, people believed to be party supporters allegedly used some dangerous weapons, including guns and machetes.
”In the violent fight, two people died while several others were injured,” a witness said.
NAN learnt that the bodies of the deceased, which were initially taken to the Adeniji Adele Police Station on the Island, had been deposited at a mortuary.
Contacted, the spokesman of Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad, Mr. Lekan Ogundare, confirmed the incident and said the bodies were brought to his Adeniji Adele Police Station.
”The two corpses, one with a cut on the stomach and the other on the head, were brought to the station from the rally.
”We have not established what lead to the crisis, but investigations are still ongoing,” he told NAN.
Ogundare, however, said no arrests had been made in connection with the killings.
