It‘s wrong for politicians to shun debates -Momodu
The presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party, Mr. Dele Momodu, has lamented the decision of some presidential candidates to shun debates ahead of the April elections.
In a tweet posted on twitter.com, Momodu said, ”Why should any presidential candidate shun any debate? Why repay evil with evil? Don‘t these politicians pity Nigeria?”
Momodu was apparently referring to the decision of three presidential candidates to pull out of the debate to be organised by the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria, the
Newspaper Proprietors‘ Association of Nigeria, the Nigerian Bar Association, National
Council of Women Societies, News Agency of Nigeria and some civil society groups.
The candidates of the Congress for Progressive Change, All Nigeria Peoples Party and
Action Congress of Nigeria, Maj.-Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (retd.), Mallam Ibrahim
Shekarau and Mallam Nuhu Ribadu respectively, said in a joint statement on Thursday that they would not be part of the debate because President Goodluck Jonathan failed to attend last week‘s debate organised by a cable station, NN24.
They also expressed worry that the BON debate scheduled for March 28-30, might be titled against Jonathan‘s opponents.
In a separate tweet, Momodu said, ”Just to set th records straight. I was not at the NN24 debate because I was not invited. I am the last person to shun any such debate.”
